Kaito looks like the kind of guy who is always looking for a fight. Thanks to his sharp piercing eyes, his long and terrifying tusks, his brooding presence and his physical body, it gives off the vibes to anyone around him to have immediate caution whenever he is near.
But the moment he opens his mouth... It all changes. He doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body, he is just an anxious, friendly and gentle guy. He is a cheerful and excited fella who is quite clumsy for his size and easily scared by anything he considers scary. He might not be very smart, but he worries about the people around him and tries his best to try help and protect them with however he can.
Although, he cannot see any of those qualities on himself and truly believes he is weak.
History
Kaito Rikimaru, alongside his twin brother, are the sons of a Martial Arts Dojo's Sensei at Scorched Mountain. Which means they spend most of their childhood training the basic posture, footwork, and wooden sword handling, so they could honor the family business and, when the time comes, one of them would be picked by their father to inherit the Dojo and become the future headmaster.
Their training was hard and harsh for being the possible future heirs. Their father was extremely strict on it because it was for "the greater good for the future of the Dojo" and Kaito wanted to make his father proud and trained very hard alongside his brother so that maybe... just maybe... he could be a great warrior and protect others from evil!
But those dreams were shattered quickly. Unlike his brother who was brave and had the spirit of a fighter already at such young age, Kaito was... not that at all. His brother gripped the sword certainly and firmly. Kaito didn't. His hands tremble in fear and anxiety at the battle. Kaito was more gentle, he was more... soft. Of course, his father didn't like that at all. He wanted Kaito to be strong, to be brave, so he was cruel and always called Kaito an incompetent, a coward and that he should be more like his brother whenever Kaito failed to do something and that really hit Kaito harder than any wooden sword.
Feeling pity of the boy, his mother started to train him in secret to help him out with his father's own training, teaching him how to be strong but try to embrace the gentleness that he has inside himself. As years went by, his father's words still were stuck and echoing in Kaito's head. It didn't matter how much training he had, it didn't matter how much he tried, he would still feel fear and anxiety. He would still be a coward.
At the age of 18, Kaito asked for his father if he could be taken out from the family because he didn't want to bring dishonor for them for being so incompetent... and his father simply allowed it. So Kaito changed his last name to Ishikawa and moved out to the closest village to start a new life, leaving his twin brother as the future heir of the Dojo.
It has been 4 years since Kaito started to live at Gale Spring as a fisherman. He might not have what it is needed to be a fighter or a warrior, but he could be useful by pulling the heavy fishnets out of the waters with his strength.
But... To be very honest, he still dreamed about being a warrior and protecting others from evil. He dreamed about being brave, courageous and fearing absolutely nothing. Oh, but those are only silly dreams for a guy like him. These are only dreams and nothing more... but could he prove himself wrong...?

Kaito is very much capable of growling and roaring just like a Gyarados. There will be times where he will — accidentally — roar instead of just scream and moments he will growl when angry.

Once in Kaito's life he felt closer to both his father and mother... but it changed at a certain moment of his life. Now, he feels closer of his mother, even though he loves both of his parents.
