About Pokimono

Where the rice grows in abundance and adventure awaits! Pokimono is a Pokémon gijinka roleplay group where members can explore a fantasy world inspired by the Edo period of Japan. Discover the mysteries of the Sun Empire left behind by the gods.

Our goal is to build a welcoming community where creativity thrives! Artists, writers, roleplayers, and storytellers of all levels are invited to join, hang out, express their creativity, and have a blast!

We started on DeviantArt in the 2010s—applications, journals, event art, and threaded scenes between writers. New applications run on Pokimono now. After a quieter stretch the community is reviving here; you can submit anytime when applications are open. Moderators review in submission order, but acceptance is not first come, first served — see Application process for the next chapter of collaborative lore.

Intro

What is Pokimono?

Pokimono is a Pokémon gijinka roleplay where characters may look mostly human, but still carry the instincts, traits, legends, and aesthetics of their Pokémon roots. Typing matters. Season matters. Homeland matters too. Stories can be political, dangerous, cozy, strange, or personal, depending on where your character goes and what they are willing to risk.

Art is a big part of the group, with character sheets, portraits, designs, and visual worldbuilding at the center of play. Writing is just as welcome. Scenes, journals, jokes, rivalries, friendships, slow-burn plots, and small messy character moments all have a place here.

Sun Empire

The World

Most play takes place in the Sun Empire, a fantasy Edo Japan-inspired setting shaped by village leadership, shrine duties, merchant roads, clan etiquette, court politics, seasonal festivals, and old religious traditions. Major regions include Gale Spring, Noir Vale, Scorched Mountain, Radiant Harbor, and the wider Neutral Lands.

Characters are Pokémon gijinka, so species lore, instincts, typing, and village customs affect how they live, work, and are treated. Feral Pokémon also exist, but they function more like animals than people. They may be livestock, wild creatures, sacred beasts, companions, mounts, pests, predators, or omens depending on the species and region.

Future mods

Join the mod team

If you feel you would be a good fit—you know the rules, care about tone, and want to help with intakes and events—send the mod interest form. We review submissions as we are able, and day-to-day coordination happens on Discord. Mods keep a moderator character in the setting; the character builder allows Legendary species for that role. After you are approved, you have two weeks to submit that moderator-character application.

PokiBot

Keeping the bot online

Ruu covers PokiBot hosting out of pocket — about $10 a month (~$120 a year). If you'd like to help offset those costs, you can donate via PayPal or message Ruu for other ways to contribute.
