Like the moon, one must go through phases of emptiness to reach the feeling of being whole once again.

Cho Hwa, also known now as Kuni, can often be viewed on the surface as distant and reserved when one first meets her. Keeping to herself, only interested in things that benefit herself, and not speaking many words, with any words she does share, they're often carefully selected.
Though the closer you look... the more you notice her patience, her awareness for the situation around her, as well as her impartial attitude to everyone who speaks to the woman. No favoritism, but no outright hatred or judgement. Seemingly attuned with her surroundings.
Most of her choices rely on her pragmatic nature, dealing with situations in a way that benefits the current setting. And although she may hide it, Kuni has a strong compassion for those around her, which she often takes into account for her decision making.
Though, most of her thoughts and feelings stay hidden, this is mostly done in her opinion as a way to protect herself. But this doesn't change her care for the world, and for others around her... nor does it change her grief and sorrow she carries with her along her path of life.
History
⏾ Cho Hwa was born inside the Soul Kingdom, accompanied by an older sister of four years, and two parents who were Dark types. She often had been doted on as the newest member of the family, even despite her parents very busy schedules due to the families lack of income. Often, her elder sister was appointed as another "motherly" role to Cho Hwa, taking on many responsibilities her parents would normally share.
⏾ Growing up poor in the farming scene, Hwa would often partake in the families work ever since she was physically and mentally capable, aiding her parents and elder sister the best she could, it was a duty she had as a member of the family.
⏾ As a teen, Hwa's family introduced a new younger sister into the two kids lives, Hwa had suddenly shifted to being the "Middle Child", losing the doting of her parents, and gaining a newfound responsibility over her younger sibling, and more responsibilities in the families line of work, taking over the previous role her elder sister had... while her elder sister started to be involved in more serious familial matters.
⏾ Due to the sudden load of responsibilities put onto her from her ever-growing and increasingly busy family, Hwa often was stressed in her teenage years, having to care for her younger sister as a "parent", but being old enough to aid her parents and her elder sister with their jobs. A job she soon, would also inherit as part of the family. These newfound responsibilities had taken from Hwa's ability to share her feelings, how she felt, or her ability to find herself early in life. After all... everyone in her family was doing their part with no complaints, and she should do the same.
⏾ As time passed within her teenage years, her life became more of a mundane and bland routine then a 'life' to her, she often kept her thoughts and feelings to herself, carrying on her duties just to help the family get by day by day. This often sheltered Hwa from gaining friendships outside her family, or being able to express herself. Despite this, Hwa loved her family and her sisters, and often made it a goal to give her younger and elder sister a better life, for the elder sister it was cause she had already done so much for Hwa... and for her younger sister, it was so she could live an easier life.
⏾ Into adulthood, Hwa had already been accustomed to the repetitive life she had been living, though she had expected it was time for her to take on the work her elder sister did, while her elder sister moves onto another stage of life. Unfortunately, during this time... a past mistake of the family would catch up with them, coming back to strike its 'vengeance'.
⏾ The day of Hwa's birthday, the family was attacked by a group of so-called 'Debt Collectors', taking her parents and her two siblings hostage, while Hwa was out fetching ingredients for a meal. Their lives were threatened, and although the children weren't the focus of the attack, their lives were still on the line. All unknown to Hwa, but soon would become known. Hwa had eventually been found, and dragged back to the house, put alongside her two siblings, as she heard of this newfound information her family had never mentioned. A debt worth the lives of their entire family.
TRIGGER WARNING : MENTIONS OF - DEATH, MURDER, STARVATION.
⏾ The situation had intensified, and the two parents had been murdered within a futile attempt to fight back and let their kids escape. Hwa's mother had ushered them away, while their father had tried to hold back the attackers, but they both endured the same fate.
Although it seemed like all hope was lost, the eldest sister had managed to free herself and her sisters from their restraints within this time, now fending off the attackers herself, ushering her two siblings to run. With this small timeframe, Hwa and her younger sister managed to flee, but at the expense of their elder sisters life, as well as their parents.
Escaping into the forest, Hwa had been running on pure adrenaline, running as far as she could with her sobbing sister, eventually carrying the girl on her back, till Hwa's legs eventually gave out, the two far into the forest... far from whatever home they may had.
⏾ They had only a day to recoup their loss, their situation, and their plans for the future. The two were hungry, tired, and without sleep... filled with grief. As much as Hwa tried to comfort her younger sister, she too was in need of the same comfort. But it was her responsibility as the younger sibling to care for the younger... no matter the situation. Her families lives at the cost of their escape cannot be in vain.
⏾ Unfortunately for the girls, the second night, they had been found. Hwa did her best to fight back, but with her lack of strength, and her lack of rest... she could only do so much. Her younger sister was taken, sacrificing herself for a timeframe for Hwa to run, and despite this grueling choice, Hwa ran. She ran, being the only escapee of her family, who all died to a debt she had never even been told of.
⏾ Eventually Hwa had managed to survive being on the run in the forest, still stricken by fear and guilt, but with a will to carry on. Her journey led her outside of the Soul Kingdom, toward the Sun Empire... Hwa was still running as far as possible from her grief, from her loss, seeking to find comfort in a 'new' life. A comfort she'd never find, but she could try.
⏾ Within the Sun Empire, Hwa had eventually found a small village to stay, a village called Noir Vale. Laying low for a few weeks, before eventually taking up the job of a Ninja, in hopes it would aid as a distraction from her past, and as a veil of protection. Protection she could use for herself, or anyone else she allowed within her life. This is around the time she had also changed the name she used to be "Kuni", as a way to further conceal her identity.
