Personality
Chikara is constantly filled by rage at her death, and consequently struggles to keep herself from berserking over even the smallest inconvenience. While not in her rage states, she can be somewhat insightful and even prone to prose or poetry. More to it, Chikara is shockingly caring and open hearted, but that rage can bubble up in her frequently and drown out her better qualities. This leaves her very susceptible to being rage-baited, which she knows fully to be a weakness she is desperate to overcome. Chikara despises how much her anger rules her un-life. She is, as such, very appreciative to those who go out of their way to help her keep her temper in check, like Chikyū. She has a bit of a sweet tooth and can be distracted or kept calm with offers of sweets, especially sweet fruits like oranges.
History
Long ago, a lord held a court with a good number of samurai retainers. Among those warriors was a Primape, known to be loving, kind and doting in court, but an untamable monster on the field of battle. Some would compare her to the ocean, pleasant when calm, but lethal when roused. The band of warriors were a close knit bunch, always having each other’s backs, and known to be the best of friends.
It was then not a surprise when they all died together. An ambush on the road, assassins came for the lord, and the samurai stood their ground to protect their lord. They fought well, but there were too man foes, and too few samurai. At the end, only the primape stood, even after the lord was slain, she fought on. Even as she was cut and stabbed, even as poison filled her veins, arrows pierced her, and even limbs failed her and were lost. In the end, she did succumb at last, dead still standing, her mighty club buried deep in her last victim taken with her. The assassins succeeded, but were so severely thinned, some said this samurai killed their clan, through sheer attrition.
A pair of well seasoned mercenaries, a couple known for their heroism as well as their eccentricism, was sent to find the lord, whom never arrived on his errand and came across the slaughter. Out of courtesy, they buried the warrior left dead on her feet, praying for her soul. Little could they have known that the lingering rage of the dead warrior would be touched by one of the two mercenaries aura, long mixed with black magic and occultism. This small connection would begin a process that the pair of mercenaries would never believe.
On a cold night, with the moon high and bright, a fist pierced the hard dirt. A screaming revenant crawled its way from the grave for revenge… but there was none present to avenge herself upon. She was alone, in a deep and unfamiliar woods, surrounded by simple, unmarked graves. This spirit had nothing but her ragged clothes, a blackened steel club, and a searing, unquenching rage. The trees offered little in the way of satisfaction, and so this spirit moved to find someone, anyone to unleash her rage upon. To her luck, highwaymen thought a lone, small woman would make an easy prey. They would not survive to regret their poor choice.
So it went, this angry spirit wandered and took her anger out on those of more wicked persuasions until she finally made her way to civilization, a large city in Scorched Mountain. Her funds were scant, only what she took off her victims, but what work could she do? All she knew was violence. Asking for assistance as she ate what meager food she could buy, she was directed towards a mercenary service, renting ‘Heroes for Hire’. This seemed fitting for the spirit, a way to unleash her ever simmering rage, and receive pay, even claim a moral highground of sorts! After all, a wandering killer was bad, but one who acted in the name of justice? Well that was perfectly fine!
The spirit would never understand the look of shock on the faces of the two mercenaries who ran the company. How could she, the last time they had met, she was dead on her feet and they were burying her. The pair chose not to disclose this. Instead, they welcomed her into their company, but were left with the awkward issue of having to help the spirit pick a name. Hakashita Chikara was settled upon and put to paper for the contract, and so began Chikara’s career as a hero. She would be paired to another mercenary, Chikyū, by their bosses. It was determined Chikara was still mildly ignorant of the area and would need someone to help her get her bearings back, as well as keep a leash on her, given her dangerously short temper. Chikari would never vocalize it, but she did appreciate Chikyū’s presence quickly, finding the large woman very calming and pleasant to be around. The pair thus began their careers as heroes for hire, and set out to do good for coin… and cause as minimal collateral damage as Chikara’s temper allowed.
