Your blade is awfully dull. That’s no way to treat the one always by your side. Hmph— Give it here.

Personality

Although he is a man proud of his craft, arrogance is not something that befalls him. Hardworking, Daichi strives for improvement and never settles for the current. If he can learn something of value regarding his interests from another, he will take that step forward and humbly inquire about said subject. In such matters, Daichi does not take rejection well. Persistence is key if it’s for his benefit! Otherwise, Daichi is a fairly quiet individual who himself locked to the forge. Aside from work, family is his priority. The wellbeing of the village comes second. His helpfulness will only go as far as he’s willing.

History

Born to a promiscuous slowpoke with no interests of fatherhood, Daichi was left in Noir Vale to be raised by his grandfather, Takeshi. Although disappointed by his son’s actions, he’d never turn away kin. Holding the household together with stern fist, respect came first and foremost. Manners and humility were important, especially towards elders. That said, Takeshi showed his love in smaller ways— through little actions and words of confirmation. A “good job” went a long way! It was just them for a period of time before that harlot decided to dump another baby— Hito— A little nidoran brother! Wow!
The role of a Big Brother was a pretty big deal to a six year old. When Takeshi told him he ought to protect and look him, those words were taken to heart! Although he was fond of the little guy, it was really annoying that they couldn’t play. It really displeased him, because, like, what was the point then? Daichi made his displeasure obvious, which was soon corrected. Age was a difficult concept for him to grasp. Once the time came that crawling became walking, adventuring was already set in stone.

As growing kids, what was better than running around outside without adult supervision and getting up to no good? Regardless of how much scolding and consequences, the two were always getting into some sort of mischief. Sometimes it was something more harmless like going out to collect rocks or climbing up a tree, but unfortunately, more frequently than not, Hito’s life was on the line in some sort of way or another. This kid could be stuck in a Urasing den, trapped at an impossible location, or just straight up go missing. Almost every time, these instances happen right after being scolded by peepaw too, so Daichi always had to put on a brave face and storm in as the personal hero! Yeah, now there were two children in danger. They were blessed to have a vigilant grandfather who’d always pull up and collect them.

Once Daichi turned thirteen, new obligations were placed onto the table. From a young age, Takeshi stressed the importance of the forge’s sacred flames and the responsibility that he had as a blacksmith. Now, he was able to start his apprenticeship and journey to not only follow in his footsteps, but to achieve even greater feats. Inspirational, his heart was set on this path regardless of how burdensome it felt at times as a young soul. The only downside was there was less time spent alongside his little brother, but they made up for it by having even more chaotic adventures! Possibly the third best day of his life was when Hito was also allowed at the forge, but it was very apparent that Takeshi gave them separate roles to focus on. He didn’t seem too frustrated or really think anything of it, so, Daichi was just happy to have him around!

Improving one’s craft and just living life alongside such a loving family. What more was there to ask for? Despite the occasional trouble they’d find themselves in, everything truly was peaceful! Even with a stern grandfather, Daichi couldn’t ask for more— he didn’t need anything else.

“Time flies” was a saying that Daichi could truly resonate with. Looking back on everything, it felt like it was all quick, rapid instance. Funnily enough, it was only moments of peril that seemed to last the longest. Soon he was eighteen, then twenty— his own kid brother growing alongside him. Mischief and time for adventures became less and less as Daichi had eventually became a full-fledged blacksmith, but still, he’d always make time for family.

Once Daichi was twenty two, unfortunate passings take place. Takeshi’s death was sudden— there was no time to prepare for the responsibilities that’d be passed down to him. Just because he was now an adult didn’t mean he was ready to be alone without someone for guidance. There were still so many lessons to be learned, mistakes to be made, how could he possibly do it all alone? He had Hito, but that was not a role to be placed onto him. He was only sixteen, just a child, and lost the one that raised them. The best he could do was fill in the gaps that Takeshi left, even if he was still ignorant and lacking in so many aspects.

It was a lot. Hito wasn’t a burden, but juggling the forge on-top of taking care of everything else. Daichi felt as if he was doing his brother a disservice, that he wasn’t strong enough, that he always had to out work above all else. At some point of time, his passion for his craft completely died. He was completely burnt out, but what else could he do? Quitting wasn’t an option. Not only would be a disgrace and spit on his grandfather’s memory, but all his efforts and hard work through the years would mean absolutely nothing. Genuinely, at this point, the only motivation was just Hito and surviving.

It was a lot, but they’ll make it through the hard times. They always do. Passion was reignited and a balance between work and family was found again. With a newfound love of the craft, Daichi focuses on improving, dreams of forging a legendary weapon. Of course, it’s always one step at a time— just like before, time truly does go by awfully fast.

The forge was a way to destress, a hobby, a lifeline.

Hito is still a growing young lad, and trouble tends to invite itself over. The kid’s gotten maimed at one point! Still, it was peaceful again. What else is there to do aside from carrying forward?

A regular patron of the forge and a welcome presence. Ayame provides a lot of work in weapon upkeep and is further pleasant company. Conversation isn’t overwhelming and she seems to understand the perfect timing to just remain quiet. Realistically, he could imagine them standing together in the same place and it be just fine. Work, however, comes first. Ayame is free to loiter at the forge.
